Gary Daly made an explosive start in his Willie Whelton Cup semi-final win over Aidan Murphy at Grange. He opened the stud farm bend in two sensational bowls to give him a firm grip on the contest.

Murphy reset his challenge with a big fourth shot past Holland’s wall to pin Daly back to a bare bowl of odds. He failed to build on that though by missing light at de Barra’s. Daly made light and then reached the school gate with his fifth bowl, pushing his lead nearer to a second bowl of odds. He was through the school cross in six to keep his lead close to two bowls.
