Six byes for Irish boxers in Olympic draw

The draw for the boxing at the Olympic games which will take place in the North Paris Arena took place this evening. Reigning Olympic 60kg champion Kellie Harrington has received a bye into the round of 16 on Monday July 29 and will have a wait to see who her opponent will be either Italian Alessia Mesiano or Turkey's Gizen Ozer.
Also receiving byes are Aoife O'Rourke Daina Moorehouse, Jenny Lehane, Michaela Walsh and Jude Gallagher.
Harrington and O'Rourke received their byes courtsey of being seeded fighter's.
First up for the Irish will be Sligo's Dean Clancy when he takes on Jordan's Obada Alkasbeh in the Men's 63.5kg preliminary on Saturday July 27 at 4.22pm.
Next into the ring on Saturday July 28 will be Aidan Walsh, who won bronze in Tokoyo, when he takes on France's Makan Traore in the Men's 71kg prelim. Following Aidan will be Offaly's Grainne Walsh in her first Olympic appearance. Grainne, the only Irish female boxer not to get a bye, will face Hungary's Anna Luca Hamori in the Women's 66kg prelims.
Finishing off the day for the Irish will be Jack Marley in the Men's 92kg category and he will face Poland's Mateusz Bereznicki.
Ashbourne's Jennifer Lehane will take to the ring for her first Olympic appearance on Tuesday July 30 in the Women's 60kg prelims and her opponent will be Yuan Chang from China.
Roscommon's Aoife O'Rouke is hoping to add to her European Games title when she takes to the ring to face Poland's Elzbieta Wojcik on Wednesday July 31. 22-year-old Jude Gallagher qualified in March for his first games and will take on Carlo Paalam of the Philippines in the 57kg category.
Daina Moorehouse is stepping into the ring in the 50kg prelim and will face France's Wassila Lkhardiri on Thursday August 1.
Last to fight will be Belfast's Michaela Walsh who will take to the ring on Friday August 2. She will face Svetlana Kamenova Staneva of Bulgaria in the Women's 57kg Prelims Round of 16.
