Katie Taylor will fight Amanda Serrano at AT&T Stadium in Texas on July 20th.Ā
The fight, which will be for the undisputed super lightweight championship, will be the co-main event alongside Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson. It will be streamed globally on Netflix from the 80,000 capacity stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys NFL team.
Taylor defeated Serrano by split decision a little under two years ago at Madison Square Garden. It was named Sports Illustratedās Fight of the Year and The Ringās Event of the Year.Ā
As Taylor puts her super lightweight belts on the line, Serrano will step up from featherweight for the bout.Ā
"This is the rematch the world has wanted to see and Iām delighted that itās finally happening,ā said Taylor.Ā
āThe first fight in New York was obviously an epic occasion and it more than lived up to the billing, and Iām sure the rematch will be no different."
Serrano's most recent bout was a unanimous decision victory over Danilo Ramos in October. That was fought over 12 three minutes rounds. Serrano has been vocal in her desire to see female fighters box under the same rules as men. However, her fight with Taylor will be fought over 10 two minute rounds.Ā
āI promised my fans they would see this rematch after we made history at MSG and it feels like a dream come true to know that Katie and I are finally making it happen on the biggest stage possible to show the world what elite womenās boxing is all about,ā said Serrano.Ā
āWhile my focus continues to be on giving women the choice to fight with the same rules as men, Iāve always said that this is the one fight Iād go back to 10x2 for if thatās what Katie wanted. Iām coming for her belts, she wants 10x2, so thatās what we will do. I believe I won our first fight, but I didnāt get the decision, so this time Iām not leaving it to the judges."
Following her rematch victory over Chantelle Cameron last November, it was expected Taylor's next bout would be a trilogy fight against the English woman.Ā
However, the chances of that taking place dissipated as the months wore on. Taylor's promoter Eddie Hearn said in March that he and his fighter still want the second Cameron rematch to happen. "They must fight again before Katie Taylor exits the sport," Hearn said.Ā
