Irish rowing team named for World Cup in Italy

The Irish rowing team which will compete at the World Cup in Varese, Italy from April 12th - 14th has been name by high performance director Antonio Maurogiovanni.
The team features three boats which have already qualified for this summer's Olympics in Paris, those being the the men's and women's pairs and the men's double.
For the other boats competing, the men's and women's fours along with three rowers in the men's and women's singles, this World Cup is a key tune-up event for the final Olympic qualification regatta which takes place in Lucerne in May.
The Irish men's and women's lightweight doubles, which have already qualified for the Olympics, will compete at the European Championships in Szeged, Hungary from the 25 – 28 April. The teams for those championships will be named on April 4th.
This week, Paul O'Donovan, who won Olympic gold in the men's lightweight double alongside Fintan McCarthy at the Tokyo Olympics, was named UCC's 2023 Graduate of the Year. O'Donovan graduated with a first class degree in medicine.
At last September's World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, six Irish boats qualified for the Olympics, the same number which competed in Toyko. In addition to those already mentioned, a spot for the women's double is Paris was also secured.
While the boats have qualified, the rowers who will populate them will not be confirmed until later this year.
Women's pair: Fiona Murtagh, Aifric Keogh; Men's pair: Nathan Timoney, Ross Corrigan; Men's double: Philip Doyle, Daire Lynch; Women's four: Emily Hegarty, Natalie Long, Eimear Lambe, Imogen Magner; Men's four: John Kearney, Andrew Sheehan, Jack Dorney, Ronan Byrne; Women's single: Sanita Puspure; Men's single: Konan Pazzaia and Brian Colsh.
