TRAGEDY: The scene ifollowing a serious accident during Stage 4 of the Clare Rally near Carron.  

The competitor that lost his life in a fatal accident on the Ennis based Clare Rally on Sunday afternoon has been named as 37-year-old Damien Fleming from Kilcummin, Co. Kerry.

A very experienced co-driver, he competed in well over 150 events during the last 17 years. Mr Fleming along with his driver Nigel Creagh from Co. Westmeath, who was uninjured in the incident that occurred around 2.00pm today, were competing in the historic section of the rally in a Ford Escort. The incident occurred on the fourth stage, though terrain on the Burren National Park before finishing near the village of Carran.
