Valtteri Bottas beat Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton to pole position (Bryn Lennon/PA).

Lewis Hamilton will begin his quest to draw level with Michael Schumacher’s victory record from second on the grid after he was beaten to pole position by Valtteri Bottas for the Eifel Grand Prix.

Bottas, who won last time out in Russia, saw off his Mercedes team-mate by an impressive 0.256 seconds with his final lap of the afternoon to take the spoils at the c.
