Radwanska takes Auckland crown

Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska became the first WTA Tour champion of 2013 as she beat Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer 6-4 6-4 in the final of the ASB Classic in Auckland.

The Polish player was always on top, creating 12 break points in all against her third-seeded opponent and taking advantage of two in each set.

It was Radwanska's second win in three meetings with Wickmayer as she claimed the 11th singles title of her career.

Radwanska looked forward to the first grand slam of the year after her triumph.

She told www.asbclassic.co.nz: "I played five good matches here without dropping a set so I'm ready for the Australian Open. I want to at least get to the semi-finals there."

Meanwhile in the doubles, Cara Black of Zimbabwe won a title in her first WTA tournament since July 2011.

The 33-year-old, who took time out to have a baby, won in three sets with partner Anastasia Rodionova against Julia Goerges and Yaroslava Shvedova.
