Nikolay Davydenko made it through to the third round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington but the two other seeds in action tonight are out after retiring hurt.

Nikolay Davydenko made it through to the third round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington but the two other seeds in action tonight are out after retiring hurt.

Davydenko, seeded ninth, beat Matthew Ebden 6-3 7-5, but number four Jurgen Melzer and number 14 Xavier Malisse are out.

Melzer was trailing 6-7 (8-10) 6-4 3-1 to Donald Young when he pulled out, while Malisse was showing signs of a comeback after losing the opening set, and was down 7-6 (7-4) 2-3 when he withdrew.

The day's other game saw Radek Stepanek breeze past Wayne Odesnik 6-1 6-1 to progress.
