Conor Niland endured another frustrating day in London today when his quest for Wimbledon qualification was thwarted by heavy rain at Roehampton.

The Irish No.1 was due to play Croatian Nikola Mektic this afternoon, but the weather dictated play today and the players were only able to complete six games before play was suspended.

Niland had started brightly, breaking Mektic’s serve in the first game of the match.

He will take a 4-2 lead into tomorrow’s re-scheduled match, which is due to start at 10.30am.

The match is a best-of-five-sets encounter, with Niland looking to become the first Irish man to play in the main draw at Wimbledon since Matt Doyle in 1984.
