World number nine Mikhail Youzhny recovered from a set down to beat Andrey Golubev in the final of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.

Youzhny had to overcome a spirited performance from the 41st-ranked Kazakh to win in a third-set tie break 6-7 (9/7) 6-2 7-6 (7/3).

It was the Russian’s seventh ATP Tour title and keeps him firmly in the race to qualify for next month’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

“It was four very tough matches for me,” Youzhny told www.atptour.com.

“It was my first tournament indoors after the US Open Series and for me it was good.

“I cannot say I showed by best tennis here, but, although it’s good when you show your best tennis and win the tournament, it’s probably better sometimes when you don’t show your really best game but you have a really good result.”
