Dementieva sets up meeting with Henin
Fifth seed Elena Dementieva ensured the anticipated second-round meeting with Justin Henin will take place after beating Vera Dushevina 6-2 6-1 at the Australian Open today.
The possible match-up was the focus after Friday's draw ceremony when the pair where pooled for their early-round tie.
Dementieva had the tough task of following Henin onto the Hisense Arena court after the Belgian, who is returning from a 20-month retirement, had accounted for Kirsten Flipkens 6-4 6-3.
The 28-year-old Russian provided arguably a more comprehensive display as she conceded just three games to the world number 40 Dushevina. Dementieva hit 21 winners compared to just nine from her opponent.
Dementieva is still chasing her first-ever Grand Slam and has looked in fine fettle to do so after she defeated last year's Australian Open champion Serena Williams in the final of the Sydney International last week.
However, her draw against Henin - who reached the final in Brisbane a fortnight ago in her first tournament back - will provide an earlier-than-expected test of her credentials.
