Murray reaping benefits of summer break
Andy Murray believes the break he took after Wimbledon is now paying dividends.
The Scot made short work of Nikolay Davydenko to book his place in the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal yesterday, cruising to a 6-2 6-4 win.
Russian Davydenko came into the contest on a 12-match winning streak, but that run came to an abrupt end as the world number-three claimed victory in one hour and 21 minutes to set up a last-four meeting with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
This is the first tournament Murray has played since losing to Andy Roddick in the semi-finals at Wimbledon at the start of July and the Scot feels he is benefiting from the time off.
“A lot of the higher-ranked players took a break after Wimbledon and I think you need that,” Murray said on Sky Sports Xtra.
“It’s tough to just keep playing week-in, week-out and I think all of us came in fresh and pretty hungry.”
