Kuznetsova exits US Open

Svetlana Kuznetsova became the latest top casualty in the women’s draw at the US Open after the number three seed succumbed to a 6-3 6-7 (7/1) 6-3 defeat to Katarina Srebotnik.

Just one day after number one Ana Ivanovic crashed out of the tournament, Kuznetsova suffered the same fate with the Russian committing 36 unforced errors as Srebotnik secured her place in the fourth round.

Srebotnik of Slovenia holds a 2-1 record in career meetings between the two and took two hours and 20 minutes to win the game on Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Kuznetsova reached the final last year where she lost to Justine Henin.
