In sailing, Ireland’s Ciara Peelo lies 25th overall after scoring a 23rd in Race 1 and 17th in Race 2 today in the women’s single-handed Laser Radial class.

Twenty-eight nations are competing in this event and leading the fleet is America’s Anna Tunnicliffe.

Meanwhile, Gerald Owens and Phil Lawton are 13th overall after scoring a 17th in Race 3 and 15th in Race 4 in the double-handed men’s 470 class.

Australia's Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page lead this competitive fleet of 29 nations.

Ireland’s sailing events consist of a ten-race opening series followed by a final medal race for the top ten boats.

Consistency is the key over the opening series and if enough races are sailed a boat can discard their worst results. The first discard kicks in after six races.

Tomorrow will see Tim Goodbody, who is 21st overall, resume his competition in the men’s heavy weight Finn class where the favourite Ben Ainslie of the GB team currently holds the lead after six races.
