Sastre ease to Tour triumph
Carlos Sastre safely negotiated the final stage of the Tour de France to claim the title in Paris today.
The Spaniard stayed out of trouble on the 143-kilometre run from Etampes to the French capital which culminated in several circuits around the Champs-Elysees.
It was enough to give Sastre overall victory by 58 seconds ahead of Australian Cadel Evans, making him the third successive Spaniard to win the Tour after Oscar Pereiro in 2006 and Alberto Contador in 2007.
Bernhard Kohl, the King of the Mountains, took the third step on the podium.
