Serena storms through to semis
Serena Williams returned to Centre Court to emphatically outmuscle Polish teenager Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4 6-0 and reach the fifth Wimbledon semi-final of her career today.
Williams, who had already disposed of Radwanska’s younger sister Urszula in an earlier round, proved too powerful again as she moved closer to setting up a final family affair against her own sibling Venus.
Radwanska, a former Wimbledon junior champion and already up to 11th in the world, is tipped for a bright future and reaped early rewards for her aggression as she broke Williams in the fourth game to recover an early break.
But Williams’ focus did not waver for a moment, as she slammed down three consecutive aces on the way to holding the sixth game, then took the crucial second break when she battered a backhand down the line.
Polishing off the first set in 32 minutes, Williams was in no mood to hang around on a court she had yearned for yesterday. Playing by far her best tennis of the tournament, she broke immediately in the second set.
