Contenders shaping up in the ISA All Ireland Sailing Championship
Contenders for the title of ISA All Ireland Sailing Champion are coming to the fore with six sailors securing their place in Sunday’s final: Athens Olympian Gerard Owens, Maurice O’Connell, David Crosbie, Tom Fitzpatrick, Neil Hegarty and Simon Brien
Owens, Crosbie and Hegarty are previous holders of the event however it is Fitzpatrick who can count four title wins in 1994, 1997, 1998 and 2004.
All but two of the rest will race tomorrow morning for the remaining slots in the final, before the afternoon’s final series takes place in the ISA’s new SailFleet J80’s keelboats.
Racing Laser Radial’s, the Junior & Girls championship is also taking place in the National Yacht Club this weekend. Ten of the 16 places in Sunday’s final are now secured with an equal boy/girl split: S Doran, A McLaverty, P Chris, M Leonard, M O'Dowd, T Brien, K Tingle, K White, P Doran, A Murphy and R Guy (Defending Girl Champion).
