Slovakia's Peter Velits won the men's under-23 crown at the cycling world championships in Stuttgart, Germany on Saturday.

The 171.9km race was marked by numerous escapes but after nine laps of the challenging 19.1km circuit wound up in a sprint finish, with Velits edging out Australian Wesley Sulzberger and Britain's Jonathan Bellis to take victory.
