Second seed Rafael Nadal and third seed Andy Roddick both recorded straight sets wins yesterday to advance to the quarter-finals of the Pacific Life Open.

Nadal cruised to a 6-1 6-1 victory over 22nd-seeded compatriot Juan Carlos Ferrero.
