Andy Murray will play South Korea’s Hyung-Taik Lee in the quarter-finals of the SAP Open in San Jose.

Lee, world number 54, beat Simon Greul of Germany 6-2 7-6 (7/3) to set up a showdown with the defending champion and number three seed.

The British number one reached the last eight with a 6-0 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 victory over Denmark’s Kristian Pless yesterday.

The SAP tournament is using a surface called ‘Latex-Ite’ whereas, in previous years, a synthetic surface was used know as ‘Supreme Court’.

The Scot said: “I have to keep the ball down. I played in Bangkok [on the same surface] – it was pretty quick.”

Murray will be second on court in tomorrow’s evening session, which begins at 0300 Irish time on Saturday.
