Roddick boosted by Kooyong success
Andy Roddick warmed up for the Australian Open with victory in the Kooyong Classic today.
Roddick, who is seeded second at Melbourne Park next week for the season’s first major, beat the German 6-3 7-6 (8/6).
Haas beat world number one Roger Federer earlier in the tournament and had his chances but failed to convert four set points to take the contest to a decider.
It all amounted to a good week for Roddick, who plays Michael Lammers in the first round on Monday.
“Winning is great preparation, it’s contagious. You come here wanting to win - at least I do. I’m happy with my serve and the way I’m hitting the ball. I definitely feel the most prepared that I have been (for the Australian Open).
“I had a legitimate off-season, where I was able to train. I feel fit and I’m really excited.”
Haas plays French teenager Richard Gasquet in the first round of the Australian Open.
