Andre Agassi could be forced to pull out of the Australian Open next month because of the ankle injury that has plagued him all this year.

The 35-year-old, who has won the Australian title four times, aggravated the problem with his left ankle in Shanghai last month at the Tennis Masters Cup.

Agassi admitted: “It’s arguably worse now than it was two weeks ago, so I set myself back going to Shanghai.

“Australia has now become a concern, no question about it. Until this is better, I can’t make any sure statements.

“Right now, I’m worried about my training. I have hope that the next week or two will be big gains.

“After my experience in Shanghai, I can confidently say I’ll never get on the court again unless I’m 100% ready.”
