Jane O’Donoghue was knocked out in the first round of qualifying for the US Open, despite taking the first set against Maria Sanchez Lorenzo.

Jane O’Donoghue was knocked out in the first round of qualifying for the US Open, despite taking the first set against Maria Sanchez Lorenzo.

O’Donoghue, who reached the second round at Wimbledon this year, was eventually defeated by her Spanish opponent 3-6 6-0 6-3.

Other Britons hoping to feature at Flushing Meadows include Jonathan Marray, Mark Hilton, Elena Baltacha and teenage sensation Andy Murray.
