Australian road cyclist Amy Gillett was killed and five of her team-mates injured on a training run in Germany.

The riders, members of the Australian women’s road cycling team, were out training near the town of Zeulenroda in southern Germany when a car went out of control and smashed into them.

The squad was training for the Tour of Thuringen which was due to start on July 20.

The race has now been put back for a day as a mark of respect and to allow a memorial service to be held.

The Australian Sports Commission and Cycling Australia have extended their deepest sympathies to Amy’s family and friends.
