Agassi withdraws from Wimbledon
Former Wimbledon champion Andre Agassi has pulled out of this year’s championships because of injury.
The American, who won the title in 1992, informed the tournament organisers today that he would have to withdraw.
A statement from the Wimbledon Referee’s Office read: “Andre Agassi regrets he will have to withdraw from the Gentlemen’s Singles due to injury.
“Mr Agassi says in a fax that it is a regrettable decision and he will miss playing in the most prestigious tournament in the world.”
The office of referee Alan Mills also confirmed that Russian Elena Bovina had withdrawn from the ladies’ singles due to a shoulder injury.
