Mariano Puerta booked his place in the final of the French Open on Friday with a thrilling five-set victory over 12th seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko.

Argentinian Puerta, who was not seeded at the start of the competition, came from 2-1 down in sets to claim a 6-3 5-7 2-6 6-4 6-4 win in three hours and 29 minutes.

Puerta will play in his first ever grand slam final against either Spaniard Rafael Nadal or Swiss Roger Federer, who are contesting the other semi-final.
