Rusedski progresses in Cincinnati

Greg Rusedski battled back from a set down to progress into the second round of the Cincinnati Masters Series at the expense of Thomas Enqvist tonight.

Rusedski, who had to qualify for this tournament despite returning to the world’s top 100 by capturing the first singles title of the season in Newport, Rhode Island last month, struggled to get out of the blocks early on and with Enqvist showing good form the first set went the way of the Swede.

But the British number two bounced back and managed to win both the remaining two sets to record a 3-6 6-3 6-2 win.

Next up for Rusedski is a second-round meeting with French Open champion and ninth seed Gaston Gaudio on Wednesday.

“I’m really pleased with the way I played today, Thomas played well at the start,” said Rusedski, who feels he is beginning to find some of his old form.

“I won one tournament and I’ve won 11 out of 14 matches, I’ve come back and started playing the way I used to play,” Rusedski told Sky Sports.
