Rusedski takes another step in the right direction

Greg Rusedski rallied past Karol Beck 3-6 6-3 7-6 (7/2) to move into the quarter-finals of the £205,000 (€307,100) Mercedes-Benz Cup.

“It is nice to win, no matter how you do it,” said Rusedski, a hard-serving left-hander who rifled 16 aces in the 107-minute victory.

“Sometimes you don’t always play pretty, but if you can win a match like that, it’s great.”

After a much-needed day off, Rusedski, who improved to 13-8 this year, will face German Nicolas Kiefer, who dismissed American qualifier Glenn Weiner 6-4 7-5.

“It is going to be another tough match, but it is another positive step forward for me,” Rusedski said.

“He is a good returner of serve. He is a counterpuncher, and I am going to be coming forward, so it should be a good match.”
