Russia's Elena Dementieva reached her first ever Grand Slam singles final today as she overcame Argentina's Paola Suarez at Rolland Garros today.

Russia's Elena Dementieva reached her first ever Grand Slam singles final today as she overcame Argentina's Paola Suarez at Rolland Garros today.

The ninth seed managed to win 6-0 7-5 in one hour, 24 minutes to move into the French Open final.

Dementieva was far too powerful in the first set, taking it 6-0 in just 27 minutes. The second proved a much tighter affair, and Dementieva was made to fight all the way.

Suarez missed out on some key points, however, and she double-faulted on match to lose the second set 7-5.

Dementieva is the first Russian to reach the women’s final at Rolland Garros since Natasha Zvereva in 1988,
