Lindsay Davenport remained unbeaten on clay this season with a straight-sets win yesterday in the second round of the Strasbourg International.

The top-seeded American reached the quarter-finals for the seventh time in as many tournaments this season with a 7-6 (7/5) 7-5 victory over Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli.

Davenport is 8-0 on clay this year, having defeated Amelie Mauresmo in the final of the Bausch & Lomb Championships last month.

Davenport, who has reached the semi-finals of the French Open only once, won her first title of the year on carpet at the Pan Pacific Open in February.
