Irish national champion Mark Scanlon has recorded his best result of this season after finishing second at the Grand Prix de Denain in France yesterday.

The 23-year-old Sligoman lost out to Thor Hushovd in a sprint to the finish.

The result puts Scanlon in a good position to secure one of the two road race slots available for this year’s Olympic Games in Athens.

His next race is the 250km Amstel Gold Classic in Holland this Sunday, the third major race of the UCI calendar.
