Andy Roddick battled back from the verge of defeat to beat last year’s finalist Carlos Moya and book a semi-final spot in the NASDAQ-100 Open in Key Biscayne.

The second seed was two points from crashing out when Spaniard Moya double-faulted while leading 5-4, 30-30 in the third set.

Roddick saved a break point in the following game and then clinched a 5-7 6-2 7-5 victory on his first match point.

The American will now meet fellow countryman Vince Spadea in the last four.

Spadea cruised into the semi-finals with a 7-5 6-1 victory over Argentina’s Agustin Calleri.

In the women’s event, Serena Williams completed a straight sets victory over Eleni Daniilidou of Greece to book her place in the final.

The American top-seed prevailed 6-4 6-4 against an opponent who was ranked 25 by the seeding committee.
