Man charged with murdering sister of Williams stars
A man was charged with murder tonight after the oldest sister of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams was gunned down on a Los Angeles Street.
Aaron Michael Hammer, 24, was charged with first degree murder after Yetunde Price, 31, was shot dead as she sat in a sports utility vehicle yesterday.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Richard Pena said Hammer was being held in custody without bail and that detectives were hunting two other suspects.
Officers still have not established a motive: “We have still got to piece that together,” Deputy Pena said. But it is thought she became caught up in a row in the LA suburb of Compton moments before the fatal shooting.
A man who was in the vehicle with Price, named by police as Rolland Wormley, 28, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and violating a parole order.
Venus, 23, has flown from New York to Los Angeles and Serena, who will be 22 next month, travelled from Toronto to gather with relatives.
Ms Price was a personal assistant to her famous sisters, described as their “nucleus and rock”. At Wimbledon this year she handled their affairs and watched from the family enclosure.
