Hingis runs out of steam in quarter-finals
Martina Hingis lost in three sets to Anastasia Myskin in the quarter-finals of Pilot Pen Championship.
The unseeded Russian won 6-7 6-4 6-0 by taking the final 11 games.
Hingis led 4-1 in the second set and was a break point away from 5-1.
The former world number one said she just lost steam following her recent return from a three-month injury lay-off.
"I played pretty well until that point," said Hingis. "She just lasted longer in the end."
Hingis said she could not remember the last time she lost 11 straight games.
Despite the defeat, Hingis said she was pleased with her overall play as she prepares for next week's US Open.
"I'm just trying to keep my head up and look forward to the Open," she said.
Lindsay Davenport reached the semi-finals with a 7-6 6-3 win over Amelie Mauresmo.
Three-time defending champion Venus Williams breezed into the last four with a 6-2 6-1 win over American qualifier Laura Granville.
