Marat Safin will face Jan-Michael Gambill in the final of the Liverpool International tournament after beating Sandon Stolle 6-4 6-4.

Safin looked more convincing despite the tough conditions and broke his opponent in the ninth game of the first set and the fifth of the second.

His own serve remained convincing throughout and Safin said his Wimbledon preparations remained firmly on track.

He said: "It was difficult to play, the conditions were very tough but it was a good game and I'm in top form.

"Gambill is a tough opponent with a good serve and a good serve and volley game. But it will be very good practice for me for Wimbledon."
