Ireland has narrowly missed out on its first ever Winter Olympics medal after Clifton Wrottesley finished fourth in the men’s skeleton event in Salt Lake City tonight.

The 33-year-old Dubliner recorded a time of 1:42.57, almost half a second behind Gregor Staehli of Switzerland. J

im Shea of the United States won the gold medal, five-hundredths of a second ahead of Austrian Martin Rettl, who clinched silver.
