Tennis: Forget cashes in
Guy Forget, captain of the victorious French Davis Cup team, dealt Australia a further blow in last night’s opening round robin match of the Royal Albert Hall’s Honda Challenge.
Still jet lagged from a flight back from Melbourne, 36-year-old Forget upset the title holder Pat Cash 6-7 (7-5) 7-6 (7-4) and 10-7 on the deciding Champions tie break.
Boris Becker made a successful return to the city which made him famous.
Playing at the Royal Albert Hall for the first time he defeated Sweden’s Mikael Pernfors, another Honda Challenge first timer, 7-5 6-4.
Becker has made several attempts to play on the Champions Tour this year but all have ended in injury. Against Pernfors the only obvious problem was a calf muscle twinge.
