Wimbledon: I don't have a mental problem - Hingis

Martina Hingis denied that her first-round defeat to Spain's Virginia Ruano Pascual at Wimbledon had anything to do with her fragile mental state.

The number one seed crashed 6-4 6-2 after a performance which echoed her error-strewn loss to Jelena Dokic in the same round in 1999.

Afterwards Hingis claimed a back injury had hampered her chances of winning her first Grand Slam title in 10 attempts.

She said: "I don't have a mental problem. It just seems like either I do really well here or I lose in the first round.

"I don't think it's a big failure. You've seen other players have plenty of ups and downs.

"I just need some time to recover my body and soul. Now I will have time to do it."
