Tennis: Hingis through to quarter-finals
Top seed Martina Hingis is through to the quarter-finals of the Tennis Masters Series in Indian Wells.
She beat 16th-seeded Austrian Barbara Schett 6-3 7-6 (7/4).
Hingis now faces Italy's Silvia Farina Elia, who upset 11th-seeded German Anke Huber 6-3 4-6 6-4.
Second seed and defending champion Lindsay Davenport beat fellow American Lisa Raymond 6-4 6-2 to advance to a meeting with seventh-seeded Serena Williams.
Williams needed six match points in the final game to put away Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria 6-3 6-2.
Third-seeded American Venus Williams got past Australian veteran Rachel McQuillan 6-4 6-2 and set up a quarter-final clash with Russian Elena Dementieva, the woman she beat in the gold medal match of the Sydney Olympics.
The other quarter-final will feature 14th-seeded Belgian Kim Clijsters, who beat Japan's Ai Sugiyama 6-4 4-6 6-2, and Russian wildcard Elena Bovina, a 6-3 2-6 7-5 winner over France's Nathalie Dechy.
