Greg Rusedski has pulled out of his scheduled match against number four seed Jan-Michael Gambill in the ATP Citrix Tennis Championships at Delray Beach in Florida.

Rusedski scratched a few hours before the match with what he described as "slight lumbar spasms" that developed during his opening round win against Taylor Dent on Tuesday night.

The withdrawal is a big blow to the progress of the in-form Briton, who last week beat Andre Agassi in the ATP final at San Jose.

Rusedski said: "I would have loved to have played if I felt 100 per cent healthy. In the past I've tried to battle through things and it's brought me trouble."
