Tennis: Philipoussis downs Sanguinetti to take Memphis title
Mark Philippoussis overcame Italian Davide Sanguinetti 6-3 6-7 (5/7) 6-3 to win his second Kroger St Jude title in Memphis.
Seeking his first ATP title, Sanguinetti was hampered by back pain early in the match and called for the trainer during the first set.
Philippoussis then appeared ready to close out his ailing opponent after winning the first three points of the second-set tie-break, but fell apart and allowed Sanguinetti to get back in the match.
Sanguinetti, though, continued to struggle with his injury and although he battled on bravely, it was only a matter of time before the big-serving Australian closed out the set and the match.
