Craig keen to make most of ‘once in a lifetime’ chance

Hannah Craig secured her passage to the Kayak K1 Slalom semi-finals after a nervous wait at Lee Valley White Water Centre yesterday.

The Antrim paddler struggled in her opening run hitting four gates but had a tremendous second outing which saw her finish 14th overall with the top 15 progressing to Thursday’s semis.

She said: “I’m relieved and very happy to go to the start line again. It’s such an exciting course to paddle on and sitting there at the start you know the crowd is amazing and the water is amazing and it’s a once in a lifetime (opportunity). In this sport anything can happen so I’ll go with my plan and try and do it the best I can.”

Meanwhile Ireland’s Sycerika McMahon just missed out on qualification for the semi-finals of the 200m individual medley. McMahon was third in her heat, setting a new personal best of 2:14.76.
