‘Wolf’ ends Borg’s return

TENNIS legend Bjorn Borg is to miss his first return to grass court action in 26 years after being savaged by a dog called The Wolf on Saturday.

The five-times Wimbledon winner was to play a legends match against Australian Pat Cash in Liverpool next week in his first singles on grass since retiring after his defeat to John McEnroe in the 1981 Wimbledon final.

But he was bitten on the right leg by The Wolf, a friend’s German Shepherd, at a barbecue at his home outside Stockholm.

Borg, 51, said: “It is unbelievable. What are the chances of being bitten by a dog three days before a tournament?”

Borg was injured after he intervened when The Wolf attacked his Golden Retriever.

The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, starting tomorrow features stars like 1987 Wimbledon champion Cash, Ilie Nastase and Peter Fleming.
