Cycling Ireland appoints coach

Cycling Ireland has appointed Padraig Marrey, 31, from Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, head of coaching with immediate effect.

Marrey has a strong coaching background and has worked since 1997 with junior World Champion and Tour de France probable Mark Scanlon and other rising stars, such as Lincoln GP and Shay Elliott winner, David O’Loughlin, plus recently-signed professional, Philip Deignan, who is ranked third in the world U23.

Since November 2001, Marrey has worked with Cycling Ireland as youth development officer and has been responsible for attracting young people into the sport.
