Over €6,500 was raised for the Third World Charity, which was an increase of 50% on last year.

People of all ages ran, jogged or walked the one mile distance on the track.

The fastest time of the day came from 18-year-old Leevale athlete, John Shine, who ran 4:46. Cork football team manager Billy Morgan also took part as did international athlete Noel Berkeley.

John Quigley, Eagle Athletic Club chairman, celebrated his 21st consecutive GOAL Mile, having run the event in either Cork or Dublin every year since 1984.

GOAL Mile events also took place for the first time at Doneraile Park, Bantry and Youghal.
