Dunne unconcerned by change of opponent
Dunne is not concerned by the late change. “He’s a southpaw and that means that I won’t have to make too many adjustments. I have never seen him fight so I will watch a couple of videos and then decide on a plan. I don’t make that many plans for fights. I like to let it flow on the night.”
Promoter Brian Peters is adamant that Hughes will be a worthy opponent for the Dubliner.
“He has been training for an English super bantamweight title shot so he is ready to box. He has been looking very good in the gym recently, has been handed a dream fight and he jumped at it.”
Peters knows too well how substitutes can cause upsets. He was involved in the Millstreet promotion when Steve Collins stripped Chris Eubank of his WBO world super middleweight title back in 1995.
According to his manager, Michael Marsden, Wilders has been struggling with niggling injuries and was having problems making the weight.
“Hughes is just 23 and probably a more hungry boxer than Wilders,” added Peters. “He has fought for English and British titles and he knows what championship boxing is all about.
“Bernard can do the business, secure the IBC title and we will plan ahead from there.”
The bill will feature two world title fights, as Jim Rock takes on Alan Jones for the vacant IBC middleweight title. The Dubliner is going all out to avenge the disputed decision that favoured the Welshman n Belfast two years ago.
The card also features former European amateur champion Paul Griffin, undefeated Paul Hyland and the Irish debut of the US-based Dublin fighter, Oisin Fagan.
RTÉ will televise the main events live.
