O’Sullivan prepares

World silver-medallist race walker, Gillian O’Sullivan, was a surprise entrant at the Marine Climb 6-mile road race in Dungarvan.

O’Sullivan, who is based and training in Cork at the moment, was looking for a fast race in preparation for next weekend’s World Cup of Race Walking in Naumburg, Germany, where she heads a large Irish team.

“I was expecting a flat course and did not expect it to be so hilly,” admitted the Irish record holder. She treated the six-mile race (of which the last three miles are all uphill) as a training spin, finishing sixth female overall in a time of 45:11.
