Jones will run in Milan

Marion Jones will compete in the Grand Prix Regione Lombardia in Milan on June 1 despite reports she would not be invited to compete in European meetings.

It had been reported the former triple Olympic champion Jones and her boyfriend Tim Montgomery, the world 100 metres record holder, would be excluded because of links to the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative (BALCO).

But Milan organisers released a statement yesterday which read: “We can confirm the presence of Marion Jones at the meeting in Milan on June 1.

British promoters Fast Track insist the pair will not be invited to compete in Britain, saying that “while there is no presumption of guilt, they carry far too much baggage to be invited.”

While Jones has never failed a dope test, she has been under investigation by the United States Anti-doping Agency and has been under suspicion after BALCO founder Victor Conte claimed he supplied Jones with illegal performance-enhancing drugs before the Sydney Games, where she won five medals - an allegation the 29-year-old has fiercely refuted and which has seen her launch a defamation lawsuit against Conte.
