Sprinter Grimes charged

American sprinter Mickey Grimes has been formally charged with his second doping offence.

Sprinter Grimes charged

The IAAF have confirmed that Grimes’ B sample corroborated his positive A test for the banned steroid norandrosterone following out-of-competition testing in May.

It is the second time Grimes has been involved in a doping violation after he was stripped of his gold medals in the 100 metres and 4x400m relay at the Pan American Games in 2003 when he tested positive for stimulant ephedrine.

Under international rules any athlete with two doping violations faces a lifetime ban and the case is now in the hands of the US Anti-Doping Agency.

Grimes, who failed to make the US Olympic team in either the 100m or 200m, is a member of the HSInternational group coached by John Smith.

Two other HSI athletes, sprinter Torri Edwards and hurdler Larry Wade, have also failed tests.
