Sonia to feel heat from Abeylegesse

SONIA O’SULLIVAN has been drawn in the same heat as the new world record holder, Elvan Abeylegesse of Turkey, for tomorrow night’s second heat of the women’s 5,000m with the first five in each of the two first round heats to qualify along with the five fastest losers.

Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia, the world champion, is drawn in the first heat (9.30pm Irish time) and Maria McCambridge also goes in that heat.

James Nolan is in Heat 1 of the men’s 1,500m along with the world record holder, Hicham El Geurrouj.
